Step-by-step guide: Building development plans
Plan your approach to upskilling opportunities using a practice-based learning model
Steps to follow:
1. Log into Greenbeam and get started by navigating to the 'Skills' page.
2. Click on 'Occupation skills alignment' to view an assessment summary.
Note: This view will be available once both the self and manager assessments have been completed.
3. During the alignment conversation, you may have identified some "Upskilling opportunities" These are the starting point for your targeted development plan.
4. To start creating a development plan for your upskilling opportunities, head to the 'Development plan' tab. You can do this at any time after alignment - independently or in collaboration between team member and manager.
5. You can create an action plan for just one skill at a time or map out your year ahead.
Tip: Plan your development by factoring in how you learn best, your energy, and capacity. Your potential testing report might give you some insight into this.
6. Any notes made in the Skill journal during your alignment conversation will also be available here in the development plan. Use this to prioritise tasks and guide your planning.
The Skill journal can be helpful to note what has been discussed, and also updates between team member and Manager between development meetings.
Adding learning goals
7. When adding goals to an action plan, use a practice-basedased learning model like the 70:20:10 rule to consider all the different ways learning can support your development.
Not all learning needs to be formal training. Sometimes it’s as simple as your manager observing, supporting, and guiding you in the flow of work.
8. Next, choose a goal due date, factor in capacity and energy to ensure completion without burnout.
Mindset check: Remember, this not a sprint. Pace yourself and support your team to maintain sustainable momentum. Focus on progress ,no matter how small. Seek support when needed, celebrate milestones along the way, and intentionally build in moments to recharge
9. Complete the goal including a description, any relevant links and an expected completion date.
10. You can also track and update your progress on goals.
11. Use the skill journal to provide any additional context on progress. This information will be shared between team member and manager and stored for future reference.
12. Greenbeam will send an update direct to the team member and manager to update on any updates, and progress on the development plan.
